What requirments do Blue Ribbon Kennels need to meet?
The Blue Ribbon Kennels are required to meet higher standards than any other kennels. These kennels must pass the Blue Ribbon Kennel inspection in addition to their state inspection, they must also maintain a bio-security and maintenance plan which is very important in the raising of healthy puppies. Along with these inspection and hygienic requirements, all puppies that are sold by the kennel must be micro-chipped.

Current Inspection: The applicant must have a passing inspection within the past year.
Blue Ribbon Kennel Inspection Guide:
Physical Appearance: The premise must be neat and free of clutter. The grounds must be mowed and kept free of junk and discarded materials. All buildings must be in good repair. should reflect a positive image to the general public.
Superior Ventilation and Waste Disposal: Ventilation of buildings must minimize odors, drafts, ammonia levels, and moisture condensation. Auxiliary ventilation must be available. Waste and water must be readily eliminated from the animal area.
Construction and Design: The facility must be designed and constructed for housing dogs or thoroughly remodeled and retrofitted for such purposes. The facility must be free of rust and chewed surfaces. Surfaces must contribute to a sanitary environment. All components of construction must be structurally intact.
Biosecurity Plan: The kennel must have a written biosecurity plan. There must be a security plan for visitors, with signs posted that contain instructions for entry.
Records: All animals must be identified by microchip upon change in ownership, however such requirement may be done by a licensed dealer if such practice is routinely employed through their normal course of business. Individual medical records must be kept for any dogs found ill or injured and course of treatment. Records must be kept that accurately document all vaccinations, worming, and veterinary care. All records of inventory and disposition must be kept on file.
Maintenance Plan: Any maintenance issues that cannot be repaired on the date of discovery must be recorded on the maintenance log provided. These reports shall be made available upon inspection.
Socialization: The kennel must employ practices that foster positive human-animal bonds. Employees must be acquainted with these methods. The dogs under care of the applicant must exhibit a positive response to people.
Continuing Education: Applicant has provided 20 hours of continuing education in the appropriate setting. Please provide photocopies of initial 20 hours of continuing education.
